A Desire

I cannot believe it is 7:52 in the morning and I am awake. No joking around, I think this is the earliest I have been up since before Christmas! YIKES!!!! I am not sure I should be annoucing that, but, I am sleeper in the winter. BUT IN THE SUMMER --- early riser!! With my new JOBS anyway... I will not get to sleep in until 10 everyday.

Yes I said it - I got both jobs!!! I am extatic, and so thankful. The nanny position turns out to be only for the 3 year old, he has Di-George Syndrome (if anybody knows about this, or knows somebody with it... any help in understanding more fully would be GREAT!). He is 80% deaf, mute, has a feeding tube, uses a walker, and has already had one stroke (due to a complication by the doctor suring surgery). His Mother, who is incredible, did not get to hold her son for a week after he was born, as he had so many complications. He was strapped on a bed for the first week of his life, with tubes and shots and tests done day & night to try and save his life. Praise God he is here, and he is the happiest toddler I have ever seen!

They come from a Christian background, and both go to a local Penecostal church. The church both the Mother and the Father grew up in, asked them to not bring their baby as he was too much of a distraction. As a young couple, trying to overcome having and raising a baby with such disablilities, being asked not to espose him to the house of God, was heartbreaking. So, they left the church, and out of discouragement, did not make any major efforts to find a new one.

One afternoon, the family was out at a park teaching Jonah how to fly a kite (he LOVES kites). He was catching on, and really enjoying himself, as he does not get much opportunity to try new things, or be outside playing. Along walks a man, who notices Jonah with his walker, big sunglasses and bright smile. He walks over, and asks about Jonah, and then proceeds to sign with Jonah (he knows over 400 words in sign language) and fly his kite with him. Jonah is very shy, and nervous around new people, as he has had many doctors and nurses in his life, so he does not open up easily. But this man swept his heart up right away, and they became best friends.

This man is their new pastor at an amazing church. He did not know why he wanted to aquaintence himself with Jonah so much, and his parents can't understand why Jonah was in love with him right away. It was a miracle. God was not going to let them be discouraged, but he had a better plan for their lives. Jonah may have been a reason to leave one church, but he did not hesistate to find them a new one.

This pastor takes Jonah out twice a month, and when the weather is nice, kite flying.

This blog is sort of in response to Shari's post, about having a desire in your heart, and God fulfilling it when you truly give him your heart. I did not want to post this entire story in a response box, so I created another blog about it. This was Jonah's desire in his heart, to meet God in a place where he is perfect and the same as all the other children. He may not have said it, but it was - and God was faithful.
So, I guess one desire I have in my heart, is to know more stories like this one, more experiences about God's love, and the movements He is making in families, churches, relationships. Stories of brokeness restored, faith held strong, and hearts mended. These stories are one way we can be encouraged to do more, and know that God is everywhere.

Wow Jenna, what a wonderful story. It gave me goosebumps to read how good God is and what a wonderful little boy Jonah sounds to be. Thank you for sharing, and I look forward to reading more amazing stories you have about what God is teaching you.

Cried when I read this one... isn't God is amazing that He arranged to have someone in a park who would love Jonah. One thing I've always loved about our church is having all the handicapped children free to roam around in the wheelchairs and just be part of the family.

So sad this other church missed out on the opportunity to love and be loved by Jonah... I'm sure they are great people but just lack understanding.
