Little Miracles

So, I have to share with you all - this little boy I know. In fact, I just don't know him - I love him, and pray for him -- play and cry with him. I want you all to know him, and I do not think I have met someone that displays God's love quite as much as this little boy does.
And the craziest part about this little boy, is he has the ability to spread God's love without speaking to me. I have yet to hear him say anything, but he has this ability to communicate so much. He is contagious, he is the definition of joy -- and even though this little miracle does not eat, speak, breath, or walk properly --- I know he is the happiest 3-year old I have ever met.

This little boy, his name is Jonah.
hen I first met Jonah -- he was not too fond of me. He really did not want me to sit beside him, and try to talk to him -- and he showed me this by pointing at the window a few times, which means go, and the cold March day was where I belonged. But his parents, who I have learned to love, and respect deeply -- were crazy enough to hire me on the spot as Jonah's new Nanny for the summer.

I had no idea why, I was just a university student looking for some work that I would enjoy, and challenge me. I had NO experience with a deaf/mute child, NO experience with the G-Tube, NO experience with the suction machine, and a lot of nerves about how long this little boy was going to need before he started to at least tolerate me.

But God had other things in mind.

Let me tell you a bit about my summer,
It was like a dream. Walking into their home at 9:30 every morning with my extra large coffee in hand, I already knew that I was going to be blessed a million times. Playing games, taking walks, building forts, painting, oh..and I guess I should mention reading books - because Jonah would ask me to read around 25 books in the course of 8 hours. It was not even work for me, it was just another day with my best friend.

His medical condition/background would be a whole blog on it's own, but I am not here to talk about what he has holding him back, I am interested in spreading what he has overcome --- and how God is constantly working on this boy.

While working with Jo-jo this summer, I began to notice his interest in walking (like his little brother, who is 2 and acts just like one). He has one leg that is significantly shorter then the other, so his walker was the way he got around, and he could motor on! But it was still an inconvenience for him, and his Mother and I both knew he would be walking soon -- even though doctor after doctor told her that, no, her son would never walk.

Well, last Sunday --- the world of Jonah drastically changed.

This is HUGE for him. This means no more walkers, no more ramps, no more trailing behind. This means RUNNING, jumping, dancing, playing, climbing... this means freedom.

-- A 3-year old believed in himself, and God's power, more then any doctor. He did it, he let go - and let God. I have heard this statement so many times, but never has it meant to much. I spent hours with this boy in the summer, and he didn't walk. He may have taken a step, but never SIX steps at once. I would walk with him, by holding his hand, and even then, he struggled. But he let go, and let God --- and how he has changed his future, and his families world.

Next, is his speech. He signs, a lot in fact, over 500 words, which is incredible for 3. But we want him to speak. His trach holds him back, but his Mom and Dad believe in his voice, and pray for healing.

I am passing on that request, for prayer. For Jonah's voice, for God to give Jonah the strength, and the healing to bring him one step closer to a life with a real voice. We all believe this is possible, and ask for prayer for this little boy. His testimony is already so incredible, but we know God wants to give him speech.

I love Jo-jo so much, and thank God edlessly for what He has already done for Jonah and his family. I also thank God for allowing me to be a part of this journey with him, as it has made God so much more real and close to me then ever before. To witness a small boy believe, and trust with all his heart, is wonderful, but to see God change a child's life like he has with Jonah, has no words.
